Bath and Wiltshire schools join Global Climate Action with JUST ONE Tree Day

JUST ONE Tree

Thousands of pupils across Bath and Wiltshire will be rolling up their sleeves and planting trees this October as part of a global initiative to tackle climate change and biodiversity loss.

On Friday 17 October 2025, schools across the UK will join children from 17 countries for JUST ONE Tree Day, a nationwide event encouraging young people to take positive, practical action for the planet.

Locally, a number of schools have already signed up, including Devizes School, Greentrees Primary in Salisbury and Heywood Prep in Corsham, with a number of others expected to confirm in the coming weeks. Schools including Royal High School, Bath and Sutton Veny Primary have also supported the project in recent years.

JUST ONE Tree Day is the flagship event of the British not-for-profit organisation JUST ONE Tree, a partner of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. Since its launch in 2019, more than 240,000 children worldwide have helped plant over 380,000 trees in Africa, Asia and South America – restoring vital habitats, supporting communities and reducing carbon dioxide levels.

Each participating school receives free curriculum-linked teaching resources, giving pupils the chance not only to plant trees but also to learn about ecosystems, biodiversity and the impact of deforestation. Every £1 raised goes directly towards planting a tree in areas most affected by deforestation.

JUST ONE Tree founder Amanda Bronkhorst said, “Many young people struggle with climate anxiety, but JUST ONE Tree Day shows them that small actions when multiplied can have a huge impact. Together, we’ve already planted over 380,000 trees – and we’re just getting started.”
