This September, families in Bath will be able to enjoy a host of hands-on creative experiences as Somerset Art Weeks (SAW) extends into Bath for the very first time.
Running from 13–28 September, the much-loved arts festival will invite visitors of all ages to step inside artists’ studios, explore exhibitions and take part in inspiring workshops. A highlight for local families will be the free gelli plate printing workshop at Bath Artists’ Studios on Sunday 28 September, led by Bath-based portrait artist and workshop leader Ellen Tovey.
Children and adults alike can experiment with botanical printmaking in a relaxed, drop-in session designed to spark creativity.
This year marks a major step for SAW as it expands into the Bath & North East Somerset area. The thriving Bath Artists’ Studios, home to more than 50 artists, will join the county-wide arts trail for the first time, giving families the chance to peek behind the scenes of working studios and meet the artists themselves.
Alongside the Family Friendly programme, SAW has also partnered with Axle Arts in Bath to present a collaborative summer exhibition at the Royal Crescent Hotel, celebrating Somerset and Bath’s creative communities.
Now in its 30th year, Somerset Art Weeks remains one of the UK’s original open studios events, with over 150 venues taking part this autumn. From interactive workshops and talks to family drop-ins and studio visits, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.
Guides to the festival will be available from August in tourist spots and libraries, as well as online at somersetartworks.org.uk.
