Matthew Brinkworth has started the new school year at the very place where his learning journey began 30 years ago. He has been appointed Deputy Head Teacher at Farmborough Church Primary School near Bath where he was once a pupil, and began his new position on 2 September.
Matthew – pictured above with pupils Claudia and Leo, and Headteacher Darren Roberts – studied at the school from 1995 to 2002.
He says, “I am absolutely delighted to have joined the Farmborough community as Deputy Headteacher and Class Teacher. It is a real privilege to be returning to a school that played such a formative role in my own education. Having been a student here myself, I know first-hand what a special place Farmborough is.”
Farmborough School is a rural Church of England school with 157 pupils. Amongst its former teachers is the children’s author Dick King-Smith, famous for The Sheep-Pig.
In its Ofsted inspection of November 2024, the school was praised for its ambitious curriculum and the caring relationships between staff and pupils.
Darren Roberts, Headteacher, says, “We’re thrilled that Matthew is once again a part of the Farmborough Church Primary School community and this time as a member of staff. His journey from pupil to Deputy Headteacher has equipped him with a wealth of experience and skills and we’re very happy to be welcoming him back to our amazing school.”
Matthew was teaching at Weston All Saints Primary School in Bath before moving to Farmborough. Both schools are supported by The Partnership Trust, a multi-academy trust of primary, first and special schools across Bath and Somerset.
Emily Massey, CEO of the Trust, commented, “Congratulations to Matthew on his appointment as Deputy Head at Farmborough. We’re thrilled that he is remaining within The Partnership Trust.
“One of the great benefits of being part of a Multi-Academy Trust is supporting and watching colleagues develop their careers and progress within our family of schools. I know that Matthew will be missed at Weston All Saints but, staying within the Trust means it is ‘au revoir’ and not ‘goodbye’.”
