Churchfields, the Village School,  is celebrating after being named among the very best primary schools in the area in The Telegraph’s Best Primary Schools tables.

The school, which has sites in Atworth and Monkton Farleigh, achieved a rating of ‘very good’, reflecting the hard work, creativity and commitment that runs through every aspect of school life.

Executive Headteacher, Simon Futcher, said, “We are absolutely delighted to be recognised in this way. This is a testament to our talented and dedicated staff, our wonderfully enthusiastic pupils and the unwavering support of families. It fills us with immense pride and motivates us to continue delivering exceptional education in a nurturing and inspiring environment.”

Churchfields is known for its distinctive two-base approach, with its village schools working closely together to deliver a broad and balanced education. The school places a strong emphasis on creativity, making use of its natural surroundings to enhance the curriculum, and offering opportunities in creative arts, sport, outdoor learning and drama.

Head of School, Heather Saunders, commented, “Our creative curriculum, strong values and the way every member of staff contributes their skills mean that children benefit from something really special. Rising to challenges with creativity and teamwork is simply what we do. This recognition is wonderful encouragement to keep building on that.”

As a Church of England school, Churchfields credits much of its success to its strong Christian values and outward-looking approach. Earlier this year, the school became part of the Palladian Academy Trust, opening up new opportunities for collaboration with other schools and strengthening best practice.

The recognition is not only a proud moment for the school but also for the villages it serves, demonstrating that small schools with strong values, innovative teaching and close-knit communities can provide excellent opportunities for every child to flourish.

Mr Futcher added, “What makes Churchfields so special is the sense of family. Everyone pulls together to make sure every child has the best possible start in life. That teamwork is our greatest strength.”
