Noremarsh School in Wiltshire is celebrating after being awarded Flagship School status by the Literacy Tree, recognising its outstanding use of a book-based approach to teaching English across the curriculum.
The accolade is reserved for schools that not only demonstrate excellence in embedding the Literacy Tree’s methodology but also share their experiences and best practices with others.
Literacy Tree Consultant Alex, who has worked closely with the school over the past 18 months, praised Noremarsh in their nomination for the Literacy School of the Year 2025.
“Having had the pleasure of visiting Noremarsh half-termly over the past 18 months, I am overjoyed to nominate them for the Literacy School of the Year 2025 and feel incredibly lucky to have had the privilege of being part of their journey. Noremarsh is a literary school at its very core.”
They continued, “Leadership from a truly inspirational, knowledgeable and book-loving headteacher, and teachers who are passionate about the value of quality literature, have created an environment where books enrich every aspect of the curriculum.
“At Noremarsh, literature is not just a tool for teaching English—it’s a means to build empathy, celebrate diversity, and inspire curiosity.”
The consultant also highlighted how children are deeply engaged with books—both fiction and non-fiction—and how this enthusiasm is shared across the school community. The school’s library was described as a welcoming hub, championed by the headteacher, whose passion for children’s literature inspires pupils to explore and discuss their reading choices.
Noremarsh also makes regular connections with authors and illustrators, using these opportunities to celebrate children’s learning and deepen their engagement with literature.
This recognition reflects the school’s unwavering commitment to fostering a love of reading and writing, while creating a vibrant, inclusive reading culture that empowers every child.
