Wiltshire families are being encouraged to make the most of local swimming lessons, as new research from Swim England’s #LoveSwimming campaign highlights the wide-ranging benefits for children’s wellbeing, confidence and learning.
The findings show that swimming lessons offer far more than a vital life-saving skill. Parents reported that lessons help children build confidence, focus and resilience – qualities that support them both in and out of the classroom.
As children settle into the new school year, the research found that 84% of parents notice an improvement in their child’s mood after a lesson, with many also seeing increased self-esteem and emotional wellbeing. Nearly eight in ten parents said swimming helped their child’s concentration and attention span, making them more engaged and ready to learn.
Wiltshire Council runs Aqualetes swimming lessons across its leisure centres, designed for children of all ages and abilities. Lessons are structured to help children progress at their own pace while building essential water safety skills. Parents can find out more and book at www.wiltshire.gov.uk/leisure-swim-school.
Alex Barrett, Swim England’s Senior Technical Aquatics Manager, explained, “Swimming teachers see it every day – children leave the pool happier, more focused and ready to take on challenges. What is striking in this research is how consistently parents connect swimming with improvements in their child’s wellbeing, from confidence and resilience to concentration and learning. That is why Swim England believes every child should have the opportunity to start lessons from the earliest age.”
