Guy Hodgson offers an introduction to Bath’s Woodcraft Folk
Bath’s Woodcraft Folk youth group is looking for new members aged 6-12 years. Come along to a taster session to find out more!
Youth organisation Woodcraft Folk, currently celebrating its 100th anniversary, is a vibrant and inclusive UK cooperative movement for children and young people. Through weekly group nights, campaigns, events and youth programmes, the charity supports children and young people to take the lead and change their world.

Local groups are the lifeblood of the organisation with nearly 200 across England, Wales and Scotland catering for ages 0-20. Many older members have enjoyed their time so much they progress into a range of roles from sitting on the general council, to helping to run local groups or organising camps.
Woodcraft Folk teaches valuable skills that translate into careers and daily life. The weekly meetings offer an exciting mix of activities, including cooperative games, crafts, discussions, music, workshops and drama, where big ideas and topical issues are explored in an inspiring and engaging environment, and tailored to the varied age groups. This includes outdoor activities such as campfire cooking and bushcraft skills.

The Bath group are currently recruiting for young members aged 6-12 years. The 6-9 years group is called ‘Elfins’ and the 10-12 group is the ‘Pioneers’. Both groups meet on Thursdays during term time, from 6.15 to 7.30pm at Newbridge Primary School. There are also periodic overnight camps which are highlights for many!
“Signing your young person up to Bath Woodcraft Folk group gives them the chance to develop skills, build their confidence, make friends, get outdoors and explore new experiences in a safe space where everyone is welcome,” explains Woodcraft Folk’s Bath group volunteer Eric.
“We are thrilled to be able to offer some spaces to new members and we can’t wait to expand the group and show what a difference joining a Woodcraft Folk group can make. Why not come to our taster session to find out more?”
If you are interested in signing a young person up to the Bath group, come along to a free taster session on 16 October at Newbridge Primary School. During the session, young people can get a taste of what happens at Woodcraft Folk local group sessions and it gives parents the chance to ask any questions.
Parents are welcome to attend throughout the session, both at the taster stage and during the regular sessions.
To find out more about the movement, head to woodcraft.org.uk. Those who are interested in coming to the taster session for Elfins or Pioneers need to register by 15 October by emailing email hidden; JavaScript is required.
