The village of Box is set to get bright and busy this November as families, friends and fitness fans come together for the first ever FOBS 5K and Colour Run.
The event takes place on Sunday 16 November at Box Recreation Ground, with all proceeds going towards Friends of Box School (FOBS) and their work supporting pupils at Box Primary School.
The day promises a mix of energy, community spirit and plenty of colour. The action starts at 1pm with the Colour Run, an 800-metre loop featuring four colour stations where participants will be showered with bright powder as they make their way around the course.
Runners can complete one or two laps, walking, jogging or running at their own pace. Then at 1.30pm, the 5K trail run sets off, offering a scenic route through the Bybrook Valley and surrounding countryside, including sections near the historic Box Tunnel.
Open to all ages and abilities, both events are designed to celebrate getting outdoors, staying active and having fun as a community. The 5K event includes chip timing provided by RaceAhead of Corsham for those who want to record their run, while the Colour Run focuses purely on enjoyment rather than competition. Every finisher will receive a certificate as a keepsake of the day.
All profits from the event will go directly to FOBS, helping fund projects that enhance pupils’ wellbeing and learning experiences. Organisers say the aim is to bring the local community together for an afternoon of fun while raising vital support for the school.
Participants are encouraged to wear old clothes and shoes — they’ll be covered in colour by the end — and to walk, cycle or car share to the Recreation Ground where possible, as parking is limited. Refreshments including tea, coffee, cakes and hot dogs will be available to buy on site, and there will be toilets and clearly marked routes throughout.
The organisers promise a safe, inclusive and memorable day out for everyone, whether you’re taking part, cheering from the sidelines or just soaking up the atmosphere.
