Parents in Bath can now take part in a new hands-on course designed to help them feel more confident when faced with common childhood illnesses and emergencies.
Nurture Knowledge, founded by GP and Clinical Academic Dr Ciaran Conway, has announced two Bath dates for its flagship course, Nurture & Thrive: Health Essentials for ages 1–5.

The sessions will take place on Wednesday12 November and Friday 28 November 2025, at 1 Queen’s Square in the centre of Bath.
Created specifically for parents and carers of children aged one to five, the one-day course provides clear, reliable information on a wide range of common and more serious medical issues — from chickenpox to CPR. Each course is designed and delivered by practising GPs and offers small group sizes of no more than 16 participants to ensure a relaxed, interactive learning experience.

The course covers practical first-aid techniques and up-to-date medical advice on illnesses that parents are most likely to encounter in the early years, including ear infections, tonsillitis, conjunctivitis, meningitis, threadworms, impetigo, hand, foot and mouth disease, croup, scarlet fever, nosebleeds, and febrile seizures.
Participants also learn how and when to act in an emergency, how to recognise when symptoms require professional attention, and why certain treatments — such as antibiotics — are recommended in some cases but not others.
Dr Conway explained that Nurture Knowledge was born from his experience as both a GP and a parent.
“As a GP and father of two primary school-aged children, I often hear from parents who have questions about common medical problems but, due to the huge amount of information online, are unsure what is reliable,” he said.
“We’ve therefore set up Nurture Knowledge, which strives to provide courses that support parents and carers by equipping them with both knowledge and confidence. Our new one-day course, Nurture & Thrive: Health Essentials for ages 1–5, covers a wide range of common and important medical issues from chickenpox to CPR.
“Every course is delivered by a GP, with small group sizes to ensure parents can ask questions and build real confidence.”
The approach reflects the team’s understanding of the challenges faced by today’s parents. Many attendees, they say, are familiar with the late-night online searches for symptoms or the uncertainty over whether a GP visit is needed. By grounding the advice in national clinical guidelines and delivering it face-to-face in an informal setting, Nurture Knowledge aims to help parents replace anxiety with practical understanding.
Founded in 2024, the organisation already runs popular courses in Gloucestershire and online, with Bath now joining as a new venue. The Bath sessions will take place in the elegant surroundings of 1 Queen’s Square, offering a calm and welcoming space for learning.
With places strictly limited, parents and carers are encouraged to book early to secure a spot.
