Wiltshire Council is celebrating the incredible difference that foster carers can make in a child’s life through a moving new short film, The Run, released this week.
The film follows Tom, an 11-year-old boy whose love of running becomes a symbol of resilience and hope. At first, we see Tom running to escape — from danger, from a chaotic home life, and to reach school in time for breakfast because he’s hungry.
But once placed with a new foster family, his running takes on a whole new meaning. With encouragement and stability, Tom channels his energy into sport and the story ends with him proudly competing in an athletics tournament, cheered on by his foster carers.
Produced by ReelTwentyFive, The Run is the latest fostering awareness film shared by more than 90 local authorities nationwide, including Wiltshire Council, to inspire more people to consider fostering.
Cllr Jon Hubbard, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said, “This is a film which shows the real impact foster carers can make to a young person’s life. We are so grateful to the many foster carers who already take on this important role in Wiltshire.
“We always need more people to take this important step and become a foster carer. We hope people will watch this and get in touch to see how they can make a difference to a young person’s life.”
Wiltshire Council is looking for foster carers aged 21 and over who have a spare bedroom and the time, care, and commitment to support a child. Those fostering babies up to 12 months can use their own bedroom if there’s space for a cot. Carers receive weekly payments ranging from £410 to £760 per child, depending on skills and experience, along with full training and ongoing support.
An online fostering drop-in session will take place on Saturday 11 October from 10–11am, offering a chance to ask questions and find out more about the process. Details of upcoming fostering events across Wiltshire can also be found on the council’s website: Fostering with Wiltshire Council.
