Get a Georgian glow-up at No. 1 Royal Crescent this Christmas

Visitor in costume in drawing room at no.1 royal crescent credit bath theatrical costume hire

Visitors to Bath can step back in time this festive season, as No. 1 Royal Crescent Museum teams up with Bath Theatrical Costume Hire to launch two immersive experiences celebrating the city’s Georgian heritage.

Running from 22 November 2025 to 4 January 2026, The Portrait Parlour and The Georgian Glow Up invite families to explore Bath’s most iconic era through costume, photography and hands-on creativity.

The Portrait Parlour gives visitors the chance to don easy-to-wear period-style costumes and capture their own Georgian-style portraits. Located in the first gallery room of No. 1 Royal Crescent, it’s the perfect place to snap a Regency selfie and create a one-of-a-kind festive memory.

Tickets are £6 per person, with up to four people per ten-minute session, bookable online or on the door (subject to availability).

For those wanting the full experience, The Georgian Glow Up offers an overnight costume hire service. Guests can rent authentic Georgian and Regency attire — complete with accessories — to wear as they explore Bath’s historic streets and architecture. Each hire costs £120 and includes entry to the museum and a Portrait Parlour session.

The launch event on 22 November will include a Christmas craft workshop where visitors can make traditional Tussie Mussie floral arrangements, inspired by Georgian festive customs.

Patrizia Ribul, Director of Museums at Bath Preservation Trust, said, “What better way to get a feel for a Georgian person’s life than by stepping into their shoes? Bath Theatrical Costume Hire’s pop-up experiences will allow visitors to do just that. Whether you want to try on a costume for ten minutes or a whole evening, don’t miss this opportunity to get a real feel for all things Regency – and get that Georgian glow up!”

Bath Theatrical Costume Hire’s Managing Director, Rusette Auton, added, “We are so excited to be working with No. 1. Immersing yourself in the full experience is what really brings the museum and city to life. Being able to have photos in the magnificent museum, dressed as though it might be your second home, what fantastic memories to take home with you.”
