Players from Bath Rugby brought some Christmas cheer to young patients last week during a special visit to the Children’s Ward at Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust.
Among those taking part were Cameron Redpath and Jaco Coetzee, who stepped away from preparations for the festive fixture list to spend time with children, families and staff.

The players posed for photos, played games and handed out gifts to young patients, along with match tickets as a thank-you for the ward’s hardworking staff.
Children of all ages were able to meet the team, from a baby born on the day Bath Rugby became Premiership champions to budding young players keen to share a few passes with a signed rugby ball.

Reflecting on the visit, the players said, “Such a special visit to see the brave patients, families and incredible staff. This place is full of heroes.”
Jaco Coetzee added, “I’m really glad that we decided to do this; to come in and try and make everyone’s day a bit more special this Christmas.”
Cameron Redpath said, “I’ve met the happiest, smiley little girl that I’ve seen in a long time. She’s only two and was quite shy at first but ended up high fiving and playing with her new toys with my teammates.”

This Christmas, RUHX, the official charity of RUH Bath, is fundraising to support children’s mental health on the ward.
The appeal aims to raise £50,000 to create a new calm, quiet de-escalation room, featuring soft furnishings, low-stimulation lighting and sensory-friendly design, providing a safe space for young patients when they feel overwhelmed. The charity hopes the new room will be ready by Spring 2026.
