Ralph Allen School has been recognised as the Best Comprehensive School in the South West in the new Sunday Times Parent Power Guide 2026, a listing that highlights the top-performing state and independent schools across the country.
The annual guide assesses schools on academic outcomes, wider achievement and overall school culture. Ralph Allen’s position places it at the top of all non-selective secondaries in the region, reflecting what the guide describes as strong performance across a broad, mixed-ability intake.

The school, which educates around 1,300 pupils aged 11–18, is known for its emphasis on academic progress, inclusive values and a wide range of opportunities in sport, arts and enrichment. It is also part of the Palladian Academy Trust, a partnership of local schools working together to share best practice and strengthen teaching and learning across the area.
Headteacher Nathan Jenkins said, “This is an outstanding achievement and one that reflects the hard work, dedication, and relentless commitment shown by our staff every single day. As you have often heard me say, we do not do this work for awards – we do it for the children. However, recognition such as this is deeply meaningful, particularly as it affirms that our students are receiving the very best education we can offer.”

He added that the accolade belongs to the entire school community, explaining that “the whole Ralph Allen community can feel incredibly proud. This honour belongs not just to the school, but to our students, our staff, our parents, and our governors. It is the collective effort, support, and shared belief in our values as a school community and also as part of our wider Palladian family, that make moments like this possible.”
The guide also notes the school’s continued focus on developing confident, well-rounded young people. Alongside strong exam outcomes, pupils benefit from specialist facilities, extensive extracurricular programmes and a commitment to supporting wellbeing.
