Royal High Bath is inviting aspiring lawyers to apply for the Johnston Memorial Scholarship 2025/26, a prestigious award supporting students who hope to study Law at university.
The scholarship provides £1,500 a year to a Sixth Form student who is already in receipt of a bursary or scholarship with significant financial assistance, helping to remove barriers and widen access to opportunity.
Last year’s recipient, Royal High student Aliya, said the award had played a key role in helping her pursue her ambitions. “My own personal experiences and strong moral compass have inspired me to pursue law at university – I feel obliged to make society better actively by defending and supporting the voiceless,” she said.
“I aspire to become a barrister, consistently speaking up for women and minorities who have faced injustice, regardless of their financial or cultural backgrounds.”
The Johnston Memorial Scholarship sits alongside a wide range of opportunities available to Sixth Form students at Royal High, all designed to help young women develop confidence, skills and ambition.
These include Choose Maths, a new programme run in collaboration with Murray Edwards College, University of Cambridge, which highlights the benefits of studying Maths and Maths-related degrees at university.
Students can also take part in the LEAD (Leadership Enterprise Advanced Diploma), which focuses on mentorship, entrepreneurship and leadership skills, as well as the GDST Space Technology Diploma, offering insight into careers in space science and the wider STEM sector through Girls’ Day School Trust initiatives.
Heidi-Jayne Boyes, Head of Royal High, commented, “We’re proud to be part of a community that believes in investing in every girl’s future, and scholarships like the Johnston Memorial reflect our commitment to removing barriers and empowering our students to aim high, whatever their circumstances.”
