Pupils at St Benedict’s Catholic Primary School in Midsomer Norton are preparing to take on a new challenge as they join the Mini Police programme, working alongside local officers to learn more about community safety and responsibility.

The initiative will see children in Years 4, 5 and 6 team up with PCSO Will Mortimer to explore the role of the police and the importance of respect, teamwork and civic pride.

Launching in January, the programme is designed to help pupils build confidence, develop leadership skills and gain a stronger understanding of how they can make a positive difference within their community.

It also reflects the school’s wider commitment to nurturing kindness, empathy and social responsibility. Earlier this term, St Benedict’s held an Acts of Kindness Celebration, recognising pupils who consistently demonstrate care and respect for others.

Ellen Croker, headteacher at St Benedict’s Catholic Primary School, said, “We’re delighted to take part in this innovative programme. Our pupils will gain more than just knowledge of community safety. They will learn to take initiative, show empathy and believe in their ability to make a positive difference.”

Helen Taylor, CEO of the Dunstan Catholic Educational Trust, added, “This is a wonderful initiative that helps pupils build confidence and develop skills that will benefit them both in school and in the wider community.”
