Secondary schools across Bath and the surrounding area are being invited to take part in a new student correspondent initiative from The Bath & Wiltshire Parent, giving pupils the opportunity to see their work published in the region’s biggest family magazine.
The scheme is designed for secondary schools and offers a structured way for pupils to contribute news, features and creative content about life in their school – from events and achievements to projects, trips and fundraising activities.
Submissions may be published on the Bath & Wiltshire Parent website and, where appropriate, in the print magazine, which is distributed through every school – state and private – across Bath, as well as many more across West Wiltshire and North Somerset.
As part of the initiative, editor Ian Waller is also happy to visit participating schools to talk to pupils about the role of a journalist, how stories are researched and written, and how to develop strong journalistic writing skills. Sessions can be tailored to different age groups and linked to curriculum learning.
Ian said, “There are so many great things happening in our local secondary schools, and this is a fantastic way to give pupils a real voice and a genuine audience. It also helps them understand how journalism works and builds confidence in their writing.”
Schools interested in taking part are invited to get in touch to discuss how the scheme could work for their pupils and to receive guidance on submitting content.
