Young wildlife fans can step behind the scenes at The Bird of Prey Project this February with a brand new Junior Bird Keeper experience.
The hands-on workshop gives children aged 6–12 the chance to discover what life is really like as a bird keeper.
Running on 17 and 19 February from 10am–12pm, the sessions introduce day-to-day tasks involved in caring for owls, hawks and other magnificent birds of prey. Children will work alongside experienced keepers and learn about the birds who live at the centre.
Junior Bird Keepers will fly a bird of prey under expert supervision, help clean and prepare an aviary and create enrichment for the birds, encouraging natural behaviours.
They will also learn about bird care, diets, training and welfare and find out what it takes to work with birds of prey. Staff say the workshop is designed to inspire the next generation of bird keepers, conservationists and wildlife professionals.
Numbers are limited to ensure a safe and engaging experience, so advance booking is essential.
The cost is £60 per child and includes entry to the centre for the whole day plus free entry for one accompanying adult. Equipment, a snack and drinks are provided and families are reminded to bring warm, waterproof clothing and a long-sleeve top.
