King Edward’s School, Bath expands primary campus with £3m investment

King Edward’s School, Bath is investing £3m to expand its primary provision, creating a unified 3–11 campus by 2027.

King Edward’s School, Bath has announced a £3 million investment to bring its Pre-Prep and Junior Schools together on one site, creating a purpose-built primary school for children aged 3–11.

The development will mean the current Weston Lane Pre-Prep site will close, with all primary pupils moving to the North Road campus by September 2027.

A unified primary school for ages 3–11

The move will bring King Edward’s Early Years and Junior School provision together, creating a single, seamless primary school experience.

The school says the plans reflect ongoing demand for a King Edward’s education and build on recent national recognition for its academic and pastoral provision.

New facilities for younger pupils

The £3m redevelopment will transform the North Road site with learning spaces designed specifically for Nursery to Year 6 pupils.

Plans include a dedicated Early Years area with indoor and outdoor free-flow learning, specialist Pre-Prep classrooms, a reimagined STEM hub, enhanced music and performance facilities, and a significantly improved outdoor education area.

There will also be practical upgrades, including new changing rooms, an extended kitchen with menus designed for younger pupils, and a new reception area for families and visitors.

Benefits for families and the city

Bringing all primary pupils onto one site will remove the need for cross-city travel between campuses, reducing journeys for families and staff.

It will also mark the first time since the 1960s that the whole King Edward’s community has been based on a single site, strengthening continuity and community.

Leadership and vision

The new combined primary school will be led by Sean Price, current Head of the Junior School, who will oversee the transition and future development.

Headmaster Martin Boden said, “This development marks a defining moment in the history of King Edward’s School. By bringing our Pre-Prep and Junior Schools together at North Road, we are creating a truly outstanding environment in which young children can grow, explore and flourish.”

He added, “This project will enhance the lives of current and future pupils and ensure that King Edward’s continues to set the standard for primary education in Bath.”

Sean Price said, “This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to shape something truly special for children aged 3–11, with exceptional facilities and inspirational specialist teaching.”

What happens next

The Weston Lane Pre-Prep site will be formally listed for sale in the coming weeks, alongside planning and listed building consent applications.

A planning application for the North Road campus will also be submitted shortly, with detailed redevelopment plans to be shared once approved.
