Monkton welcomes former pupil Bradley Salisbury as new Principal

Monkton has appointed former pupil Bradley Salisbury as its new Principal, bringing fresh leadership and deep roots in the school community.

Monkton Combe School in Bath has welcomed Bradley Salisbury as its new Principal, marking a moment that looks firmly to the future while staying rooted in the school’s history.

Educated at Monkton before studying at the universities of Leeds and Bristol, Bradley returns with a personal understanding of what makes the school distinctive.

That insight is matched by extensive leadership experience. For more than a decade he led Dean Close School in Cheltenham, having previously held senior roles at Wells and Bristol Cathedral Schools.

His appointment comes at a particularly positive time for Monkton, which was recently named Independent Boarding School of the Year 2025.

The award reflects the strength of the school’s ethos, the quality of its education and the commitment of its staff. Bradley’s arrival builds on that success and adds fresh momentum to what is already an exciting period for the Monkton community.

From his first days in post, he has focused on listening and learning. His approach combines respect for what already works with thoughtful ambition for what lies ahead.

In a fast-changing world, Bradley believes pupils need more than academic knowledge. He highlights critical thinking, clear communication, creativity and collaboration as essential skills.

He also places strong emphasis on relationships and responsibility. Helping pupils to build lasting friendships and contribute positively to their communities is a key part of his vision.

Bradley said, “I’ve already seen glimpses of the hardworking culture that understands that school shouldn’t necessarily be the best days of your life, but it should be an incredible, fun and informative journey preparing you for them.”

He added, “Being in the idyllic countryside just moments from the heart of Bath, this setting is truly hard to beat. I am thrilled to begin my leadership of the Monkton family of schools. It is a real privilege to join a community of pupils, parents, alumni and staff so deeply committed to the authentic education Monkton is known for.”

As Monkton builds on its recent recognition as Independent Boarding School of the Year, Bradley’s return has generated fresh excitement.

Rooted in experience, guided by values and shaped by a genuine affection for the school, his leadership marks a new chapter for Monkton and its families.
