RUHX, the official charity of the RUH, will host its 20th annual Walk of Life on Saturday 23 May 2026.
The Walk of Life began in 2006 thanks to sisters Nic and Vanessa, known as Ness, who were determined to raise funds to improve cancer facilities at the RUH.

Ness was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2000 and received treatment at the hospital. While grateful for the care she received, she became aware that facilities were outdated and in need of replacement.
After Ness sadly passed away in 2007, Nic promised to continue their shared passion for fundraising. She has led the Walk of Life every year since, finding comfort in meeting others who have experienced similar journeys.

Since the event began, walkers have raised more than £875,000 for Royal United Hospitals Bath. This year, organisers are hoping to raise a further £125,000, taking the total past the £1million mark.
The Walk of Life follows the Kennet & Avon Canal from Bishops Cannings, near Devizes, to Bath. Participants can choose between a full 26.2-mile marathon route, or shorter 16- and 10-mile distances.
Entry costs £20 for adults and £8 for children. This includes a t-shirt, refreshments along the route and a lunchtime BBQ kindly provided by Rapid Relief Team UK.
To celebrate its 20th anniversary, RUHX is also encouraging more families to take part through a free ‘do it at home’ option. This allows supporters to choose their own distance, route and date at any time during May.
By taking part, walkers will be giving back to their local hospital, helping fund care for patients and families across Bath, Wiltshire and beyond.
