Free half-term fun at BRLSI brings stories to life

Free half-term fun at BRLSI in Bath with Lego, storytelling and word games on 17–18 February. Drop in, no booking needed.

Families looking for free, creative half-term activities in Bath are invited to head to Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution (BRLSI) this February for Neverending stories, a playful programme designed to spark imagination and a love of reading.

Running on Monday 17 and Tuesday 18 February, the activities take place at BRLSI’s historic home at 16 Queen Square, with drop-in sessions available throughout the day.

Delivered through BRLSI’s family programme, the Academy of Imagination, Neverending stories offers a packed programme of hands-on workshops and creative challenges to get children ‘match fit’ for the National Year of Reading 2026.

Young builders can let their imaginations run wild in a mythical Lego Kingdom, creating creatures, castles and landscapes brick by brick, inspired by classic children’s stories including Where the Wild Things Are.

Story lovers can also help create The NeverEnding Story, rolling dice and adding new chapters to a shared tale, discovering how stories can grow and change when written together.

Wordplay takes centre stage in Whizbang Wordgames, where children can experiment with language, invent games and discover surprising ways words work together.

Budding detectives are invited to join The Federal Department of Fonts, solving a playful mystery that explores why some words are easier to read than others.

For those who love making things by hand, The BRLSI Big Bind introduces simple bookbinding techniques, showing children how to turn their own stories into mini books using paper, needle and thread.

There’s also a Cosy Corner book nook for quiet reading, and an ancient book display exploring strange and wonderful creatures from the past.

Neverending stories is free to attend, with no booking required, and families can drop in at any point during BRLSI opening hours, 10am–4pm.
