Liden Academy has officially opened a new 0–2 provision, becoming the first school in Swindon to offer early years education for children from as young as nine months.
The new unit is already supporting seven children aged between nine and 24 months. It forms part of the school’s all-through approach, giving families continuity and stability from the earliest stage of their child’s learning journey.

The milestone was marked with a special opening event attended by members of the Liden Academy and Excalibur Academies Trust communities, along with representatives from Swindon Borough Council.
Jeff Mason, Principal of Liden Academy, said, “We are incredibly proud to be the first school in Swindon to open a provision like this. It is already meeting a real need in our community and giving our youngest children the very best start.”
He thanked colleagues across the Trust and the Council for helping to turn the vision into reality.

Nick Lewis, CEO of Excalibur Academies Trust, added, “This is a fantastic achievement for Liden Academy and everyone involved. The impact this will have on families now and in the future is hugely positive.”
Guests at the opening enjoyed a ribbon-cutting ceremony, cake and time exploring the new provision. There were also opportunities to meet and interact with the youngest children attending the setting.
The new space has been designed to support early development in a safe and nurturing environment. It reflects Liden Academy’s wider commitment to providing a joined-up educational experience from the earliest years through to later stages of learning.
Tours of the new 0–2 provision can be arranged for families who would like to see the facilities and learn more about how the setting supports young children and their development.
