Springmead School introduces new verse speaking cup at Mid-Somerset Festival

Springmead School introduces a new Verse-Speaking Cup at the Mid-Somerset Festival, celebrating young performers’ creativity, confidence and stage presence.

Springmead School has announced a new annual award celebrating young performers at the Mid-Somerset Festival this month.

“Springmead School is delighted to introduce a new annual award at the Mid-Somerset Festival this month, celebrating the creativity and talent of young performers in our community,” said Sally Cox, Headteacher. “The Springmead School Verse-Speaking Cup will be presented for the first time this year at the Festival, recognising an outstanding participant or ensemble who demonstrates exceptional artistry, growth and passion.

“As a school committed to the performing arts, we believe deeply in the power of creative expression to build confidence, enrich learning and strengthen community. Whether pupils find their voice through poetry, movement, music or drama, the arts offer a transformative space for personal development. Sponsoring this new award reflects our commitment to supporting that transformation both within Springmead School and across the wider region.

“The Verse-Speaking Cup honours performers who embody qualities we value highly: creativity, perseverance and the courage to take risks. We aim to recognise not only technical skill but also emotional connection, imaginative storytelling and memorable stage presence. We are excited to see it awarded.

“Our long-standing relationship with the Mid-Somerset Festival is rooted in shared values, particularly the belief that all young people deserve opportunities to explore their artistic abilities. We are proud to support the festival’s inspiring work and look forward to the presentation. Who will be the talented winner of the cup – there is not long to wait!”
