Christ Church School in Frome has been praised by Ofsted for its calm, inclusive culture and strong support for pupils and families following its recent inspection under Ofsted’s new inspection framework.
Inspectors highlighted a school where pupils flourish both academically and personally, with inclusion described as a defining feature of daily life. The school achieved the ‘expected standard’, with inspectors praising many aspects of school life.
The report also marks a significant milestone in the school’s transformation journey. In February 2022, prior to joining Bath and Wells Multi Academy Trust, Christ Church First School was judged inadequate in all areas, with inspectors describing ‘a school in turmoil’ where ‘too many pupils were unhappy and not safe’.
Rebuild every aspect of school life
Since then, leaders, staff, governors and the Trust have worked to rebuild every aspect of school life, from safeguarding and behaviour to curriculum, culture and community relationships.
The latest inspection recognises the scale of that work and reflects a school that has reshaped itself into a calm, nurturing and inclusive environment where pupils feel safe, supported and able to thrive.
Inspectors noted: ‘Pupils prosper in this calm and inclusive school. Staff know pupils and their families well. They build positive relationships based on trust. Staff identify any barriers pupils face and use their expertise to provide the right support. This ensures that pupils across the school, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities and those who are disadvantaged, are able to succeed.’
The report also highlights the school’s commitment to understanding every child as an individual. Inspectors stated: ‘Inclusion is a golden thread that runs throughout this school. Leaders know each pupil as a unique individual. They have a detailed understanding of the support pupils need to fulfil their potential. This helps pupils to develop confidence and self-belief.’
Behaviour and attitude
Behaviour and attitudes were also praised, with inspectors noting that pupils demonstrate positive attitudes to learning and that the school is calm and orderly. Staff benefit from significant training and development for managing behaviour, and the consistent approach has led to clear improvements across the school.
Inspectors also highlighted the strong relationships between staff, pupils and families, with staff working closely with parents to identify and remove barriers to learning. Pupils respond positively to the school’s high expectations and show pride in their school.
The report praises the school’s strong pastoral systems and focus on personal development and wellbeing. From the early years onwards, pupils are supported to understand their emotions, build positive relationships and develop confidence.
Aspirational and purposeful leadership
Leadership at all levels was recognised as aspirational and purposeful. Since joining Bath and Wells Multi Academy Trust, leaders have driven improvement through a clear understanding of the school’s strengths and priorities, with staff morale reported to be high.

The report recognises the significant progress made since the school joined the Trust and highlights strong staff morale, effective governance and a clear sense of pride across the school community.
