Families across Bath and North East Somerset are being invited to take part in an important new research project exploring what is working well for autistic girls in mainstream secondary schools.
The study is being led by trainee educational psychologists Katie and Heidi from the University of Bristol, in collaboration with BANES Educational Psychology Service. The aim is to better understand the lived experiences of autistic girls and highlight positive practice that supports them to thrive in school.
By gathering first-hand insights, the researchers hope to empower young people while also helping schools across the region build on approaches that are already making a difference.
Katie and Heidi said, “We want to hear directly from autistic girls about what helps them feel supported, included and successful in school. Their voices are incredibly important in shaping better practice for the future.”
The study is open to autistic girls currently attending mainstream secondary schools in the BANES area. Participation involves sharing experiences in a safe and supportive way, with full information provided to families before taking part.
Parents and carers are invited to review an information sheet and complete a consent form if their child would like to be involved. The research team is also available to answer any questions.
The findings will be used to share best practice across schools and contribute to improving support for autistic pupils locally.
