Families looking for an unforgettable wildlife day out this year should take a closer look at the The Bird of Prey Project, where children and adults can get up close to some of Britain’s most magnificent birds.

Set in the Wiltshire countryside, the centre is dedicated to conservation, education and inspiring a love of birds of prey. Visitors can learn about owls, hawks, falcons and other raptors while discovering how these incredible birds hunt, fly and care for their young.

The project runs a variety of hands-on experiences and special events throughout the year, making it a fantastic destination for curious young nature lovers and families looking for something a little different from the usual day out.

This spring and summer, several exciting family activities are planned.

Easter activity mornings for young wildlife explorers

Discover The Bird of Prey Project in Wiltshire, where families can meet owls and hawks, try bird-flying experiences and join special wildlife events for children.

Children aged six and over can take part in special Easter Activity Mornings on 1 April and 8 April 2026 from 10am–12pm.

The sessions focus on the fascinating world of birds’ eggs and nests, exploring how different birds of prey build their homes and protect their chicks.

Young participants will:

  • learn about the eggs of different birds of prey

  • discover how birds build and protect their nests

  • enjoy themed crafts and hands-on activities

  • experience the thrill of flying a bird themselves

The mornings combine wildlife discovery with creativity and outdoor learning, making them ideal for children who love nature and animals.

The sessions cost £25 per child.

Become a junior bird keeper

Discover The Bird of Prey Project in Wiltshire, where families can meet owls and hawks, try bird-flying experiences and join special wildlife events for children.

For children who want to dive deeper into the world of birds of prey, the centre is also hosting a Junior Bird Keeper Experience on 26 and 28 May 2026 (10am–12pm).

Designed for children aged 6–12, this workshop gives young participants the chance to work alongside experienced bird keepers and see what life is really like behind the scenes.

Activities include helping with real keeper tasks, learning how the birds are cared for and meeting the resident birds up close in a safe and supportive environment.

The experience costs £50 per child and offers a unique insight into wildlife care and conservation.

A celebration of British birds of prey

Later in the summer, the centre will host British Bird of Prey Day on 15 August 2026 (10am–4pm).

The popular annual event celebrates the UK’s native raptors and brings together wildlife enthusiasts, experts and families for a day of inspiration and discovery.

  • talks from guest speakers and wildlife experts

  • expert panels and demonstrations
