Reception pupils from Roundhill Primary School enjoyed a memorable day of outdoor learning during a visit to Bath City Farm.
The children made the short walk from their school in Twerton to the 37-acre working farm, where they explored the site and met a range of animals including llamas, pigs, chickens and tadpoles.
The visit linked closely to their recent classroom learning, particularly around the life cycle of frogs, bringing the topic to life in a real-world setting.
Teacher Imogen Manley said, “We had a wonderful time at the farm! The children were so excited to see all the animals, especially the tadpoles, after learning all about the life cycle of frogs recently. The children were curious, polite, engaged and extremely happy to see all the animals and even got to see the llamas being walked all around the farm.”
The pupils were equally enthusiastic about their experience, sharing their favourite moments from the trip.
One child said, “I liked the tadpoles because they swam really fast!”
Another added, “I liked seeing the pigs because they snorted at us,” while a third commented, “I liked the chickens because they were noisy and really funny!”
The visit highlights the value of local trips in supporting early years learning, giving children the chance to connect classroom topics with hands-on experiences in nature.
