Schoolchildren from across The Partnership Trust, a multi-academy trust serving schools in Bath and North East Somerset and Somerset, enjoyed a day of creativity, costumes and storytelling as they marked World Book Day on Thursday 5 March.
At Hayesdown First School in Frome, pupils were inspired by the popular picture book The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt. Children came to school dressed in a single colour to represent one of the crayons from the story.

The rest of the day focused on creativity, with pupils writing, illustrating and sharing their own stories inspired by the book.
At Castle Primary School in Keynsham, celebrations began the evening before World Book Day with a bedtime story event for Reception and Key Stage One pupils. Older pupils in Key Stage Two enjoyed a special film screening.
The following day, children took part in activities inspired by the 2016 book and film The Wild Robot. Pupils explored art projects, reflective writing and imaginative tasks that encouraged them to think about the world from the robot’s perspective.

Meanwhile, Paulton Infant School celebrated an entire week dedicated to books and reading.
Activities included buddy reading sessions between pupils, a Poetry Slam and a collaborative fairy tale created by the whole school. Each class contributed to the story, bringing together a shared piece of imaginative writing.
On World Book Day itself, pupils arrived dressed as their favourite characters from books. Children also took part in a ‘Story in a Jar’ competition and enjoyed a book swap with classmates.
The celebrations concluded with teachers visiting different classes to share their favourite stories with pupils.
Emily Omell, headteacher at Paulton Infant School, said, “World Book Week was a wonderful opportunity for pupils at Paulton to celebrate the joy of reading in so many creative ways.
“From buddy reading and poetry performances to writing our own school fairy tale and our Story in a Jar competition, the children showed great imagination and enthusiasm for books. We hope these experiences continue to inspire a lifelong love of reading and storytelling for every child.”
Across The Partnership Trust, the celebrations highlighted the power of stories to inspire creativity, build confidence and nurture a lifelong love of reading.
