Students unite to tackle bullying at Wiltshire leadership conference

Students from across Wiltshire came together at a leadership conference to explore anti-bullying, inclusion and diversity in schools.

Students from across Wiltshire came together to explore how to tackle bullying at a leadership conference hosted by the Ascend Learning Trust.

The day-long event took place at Royal Wootton Bassett Academy on Wednesday 25 March, bringing together pupils from all seven schools within the Trust.

Students from both primary and secondary settings worked side by side, focusing on inclusion and diversity under the theme of anti-bullying.

The conference featured a mix of speakers, workshops and breakout discussion groups, led by The Storyy Group, which works with young people to build confidence and positive behaviours.

Among the activities on the day, children also worked collaboratively to create a shared piece of artwork (pictured above), reflecting their ideas around kindness, inclusion and respect.

Alice Falvey, from Royal Wootton Bassett Academy and organiser of the conference, said, “We were really pleased with what was a fantastic day of learning for all.

“We had a selection of students from each of the Trust’s schools all working together in one big room to discuss what a healthy, anti-bullying culture looks like, considering things like inclusion and diversity.

“Bullying takes place at all levels of society – whether at school, university or work – and while it is a sad reality, events like this help equip young people with the skills to respond positively.

“The students showed great maturity and insight, and it was a brilliant experience for everyone involved.”

Throughout the day, pupils shared ideas, experiences and practical approaches to creating more inclusive environments in their schools and communities.

The conference aimed to empower young people to take an active role in shaping a culture of respect and understanding, helping to build a more positive future for the next generation.
