Young people making a difference in their communities were among the standout winners at this year’s Community Awards in Bath and North East Somerset.
Held at The Guildhall in Bath on March 23, the awards celebrated the incredible efforts of volunteers and community groups – with several inspiring young winners recognised for their impact on others.
A total of 86 nominations were received across five categories, highlighting the strength of community spirit across the region.
Among the most inspiring moments of the evening was the Sara Banks Young Volunteer of the Year Award, which celebrates exceptional people aged up to 25.
Jimmi Browning, from Youth Connect South West, was named joint winner for his work helping others access and understand technology – a skill that is increasingly vital for young people and families alike.
He shared the award with 13-year-old Tom Halford, who has shown remarkable dedication through his work with Time is Precious, a charity set up in memory of the brother he never met.
Both winners were recognised for their compassion and commitment to helping others, demonstrating how young people are playing a powerful role in shaping supportive, connected communities.
Young people were also at the heart of the Charity of the Year Award, which went to the Ben Saunders Foundation. The charity was founded by Ben before his death aged 18 and continues to support families by providing free holidays and respite breaks.
Elsewhere, Alex Johnson of Nova Sports was named Community Leader of the Year for improving access to sport for disabled children and adults across the South West.
The ceremony also recognised a wide range of volunteers and community champions, including parish representatives, long-standing volunteers and those working to support vulnerable residents.
Councillor Liz Hardman, Chair of Bath & North East Somerset Council, said, “The nominations for our Community Awards uncovered some incredible stories of how powerful volunteering and community spirit can be. People who choose to give their time, skills and compassion to help others are the heartbeat of our communities. I’m delighted to have presented the awards to people who lift others up and make Bath and North East Somerset a stronger, kinder and more connected place to be.”

The awards were organised by Bath & North East Somerset Council in partnership with local organisations including 3SG, B&NES Avon Local Council Association, BEMSCA, Everyone Health and the Student Community Partnership.
