250 children ready to wow audiences at Bath Abbey concert

250 children from seven Bath schools will perform at Voices for Life’s Sing for Hope concert at Bath Abbey on 24 June, celebrating music, confidence and wellbeing.

A massed children’s choir from seven schools across Bath is preparing to fill Bath Abbey with song this summer as part of a special anniversary celebration.

Around 250 pupils will take to the stage on 24 June for Voices for Life’s Sing for Hope concert, marking five years since the charity was founded during lockdown.

Children from St Michael’s Junior Church School, St Mary’s Writhlington, Three Ways School, Combe Down Primary School, Oldfield Park Junior School, St Philips Primary School and Paragon Prep School will all be part of the performance.

Over the past five years, Voices for Life has worked with more than 31,000 children across the South West and beyond, using singing and wellbeing projects to help build confidence and connection.

For many of the young performers, the Bath Abbey concert will be their first time on stage in front of a large audience.

One child involved in a previous project said, “When I don’t know what to say, or how to talk to someone else there, the songs help me. It’s like the songs give me confidence.”

The concert programme will include uplifting favourites such as Somewhere over the Rainbow, alongside a brand-new composition by Musical Director Kate Courage.

Alongside the children’s choir, the event will feature professional musicians, former BBC presenter Ali Vowles as compere and Voices for Life Young Ambassador Belinda Gifford-Guy, who was named BBC Young Chorister of the Year 2023.

Organisers say the evening is designed to be a memorable and inspiring experience for both performers and audiences, celebrating the power of music to uplift and bring people together.

Proceeds from the concert will support the charity’s fifth anniversary Raise the Roof appeal, which aims to give 500 children from under-served areas the opportunity to take part in Voices for Life projects.

The performance is suitable for all ages, making it an ideal family evening out in the heart of Bath.
