A primary school in Wiltshire is celebrating a standout Ofsted report alongside a steady rise in pupil numbers, bucking national trends.
Burbage Primary School in Marlborough has achieved a ‘Strong Standard’ judgement across all categories under the new inspection framework, reflecting what inspectors described as a positive and ambitious learning environment.
Inspectors found pupils to be ‘polite, respectful and eager to learn’, noting that staff manage behaviour consistently well. The report also highlighted how staff model respectful relationships while maintaining high expectations across the school.
Strong partnerships with families were another key strength. Ofsted commented that relationships with parents and carers ‘play an important part in children’s success’, helping to create a supportive and inclusive school community.
Initiatives such as the school’s ‘Kindness Crew’ were praised for promoting positive behaviour and ensuring pupils feel included and valued in daily school life.
The report marks a significant milestone in the school’s journey. Just six years ago, Burbage Primary had around half its current pupil numbers and faced considerable challenges. Today, it has transformed into a thriving and united school community, with growing demand from families keen to secure places for their children.
Inspectors also recognised the strength of early years provision, highlighting ‘well-sequenced routines, high expectations and responsive teaching’ that support children’s communication, physical development and social skills.
These strong foundations help ensure a smooth transition from the on-site pre-school through to secondary education, including St John’s Marlborough, part of the same trust.
