For many children, the moment a princess arrives at their birthday party is pure magic. For Pixie Dust Parties founder Lottie Dance, it is also the most rewarding part of the job.
“There is so much to enjoy,” she says. “Of course, the big poofy dresses are fun and it’s always exciting to see yourself in full costume for the first time. But the best part is when a birthday child opens the door and sees you there. You can see they truly still believe in magic, and the way their eyes light up is always special.”
Based around creating immersive, character-led experiences, Pixie Dust Parties works with children across a wide age range, offering tailored entertainment that adapts to each celebration.
“We work with children of all ages, but most of our core experiences are for ages 3 to 12,” Lottie explains. “Because we offer bespoke packages, we can really cater to anyone. Even teens and adults get swept up in the magic. We’ve even had our fairies at a wedding before.”

For Lottie, the real joy lies in working with younger children and embracing their creativity.
“Their imagination is incredible,” she says. “They come out with the most amazing ideas and questions, and you have to think on your feet to keep up with them. I never quite know what I’m walking into when I go to a party, and that’s what makes it so exciting.”
That sense of unpredictability, combined with the emotional connection of the role, is what keeps the work fresh and fulfilling.
“It’s always different, and every party feels unique,” she adds. “You’re stepping into their world for a little while.”
When it comes to favourite characters, Lottie admits it is a difficult choice, but one princess stands out.
“If I had to pick, I’d say Cinderella,” she says. “I loved her when I was little. I even had a Cinderella-themed birthday party when I was three and insisted I was the only one allowed to dress up as her.”
Now, performing as Cinderella herself brings a deeper meaning.
“I love what she represents. She stays kind and brave in difficult situations, and those are qualities I try to bring into my work. It feels like a full circle moment whenever I get to play her.”
