Pupils from St Mary’s Catholic Primary School in Bath, part of the Dunstan Catholic Educational Trust, delivered a joyful and energetic performance at this year’s Dance Umbrella.
Taking to the stage at the Bath Forum, the children brought the theme of ‘happy’ to life, impressing the audience with their confidence, creativity and teamwork.
Dance Umbrella is the flagship event of the BANES School Sport Partnership and has become a highlight of the local schools calendar. It gives pupils the opportunity to perform in a professional venue while enjoying enriching experiences beyond the classroom.
At St Mary’s, physical education plays a key role in school life, with pupils taking part in two high-quality PE lessons each week. Children explore a wide range of activities across the year, including dance, athletics, gymnastics, games and outdoor adventure.
Lessons are designed to build skills progressively, with specialist sports coaches supporting staff. The school also looks to link physical activity with other subjects, using movement to support learning in areas such as English and maths.
Nicole Pecchia, headteacher at St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, said, “We’re so proud of our year 2 and 4 pupils for their amazing performance at Dance Umbrella. Events like this give children the chance to shine, build confidence and enjoy learning in a fun, supportive environment. Seeing them perform with such energy and joy was truly wonderful.”
Helen Taylor, CEO of the Dunstan Catholic Educational Trust, said, “It’s fantastic to see our pupils bringing dance to life on such a big stage. Performing at Dance Umbrella gives children the confidence to express themselves, work as a team and celebrate the joy of movement, skills they carry into every part of school life.”
