Kelston Roundhill, a well-known landmark just outside Bath, offers sweeping views across to Wales and the Mendip Hills. The route, which includes part of the Cotswold Way, gave pupils the chance to explore the local landscape together while building teamwork, resilience and curiosity.

The walk brought the whole school community together, with children supporting one another along the route and sharing in a collective sense of achievement.

Supporting families across the world

St Mary’s Catholic Primary pupils in Bath completed a sponsored walk to Kelston Roundhill, raising funds for CAFOD’s floating garden project in Bangladesh.

Funds raised from the walk will help CAFOD provide a floating garden for a farmer in Bangladesh. This innovative solution will allow the farmer to grow food throughout the year, helping to feed his family and build long-term resilience against flooding and climate challenges.

The school thanked families for their generosity, highlighting the real difference the donations will make to a community thousands of miles away.

Headteacher Nicole Pecchia said, “We are incredibly proud of our pupils for their enthusiasm, determination and compassion throughout this sponsored walk. Not only did they enjoy the challenge of exploring Kelston Roundhill together, but they also demonstrated a real sense of global responsibility by supporting CAFOD’s vital work in Bangladesh.

“It is inspiring to see our children understand that their efforts can make a meaningful difference to the lives of others.”

Helen Taylor, CEO of the Dunstan Catholic Educational Trust, added, “This is a wonderful example of faith in action and the power of community. The pupils at St Mary’s have shown great teamwork and commitment, and their fundraising will have a genuine and lasting impact through CAFOD’s floating garden project in Bangladesh.

“Experiences like this help young people to develop empathy, awareness and a sense of global citizenship that will stay with them for life.”
