Bath schools, parks and youth projects share £270,000 community funding boost

Eight Bath community projects including Oldfield School and Royal Victoria Park will benefit from more than £270,000 in new funding.

A new football cage at Royal Victoria Park, a sensory garden at Oldfield School and pedestrian safety improvements in Lambridge are among eight Bath community projects to receive a share of more than £270,000 in funding from Bath & North East Somerset Council.

Following a public consultation which attracted 1,500 responses, the council has allocated £270,260 from round 18 of the Bath Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) fund.

The funding will support projects designed to improve community spaces, safety, accessibility and facilities across the city.

Projects receiving funding are:

  • £45,000 for a new informal multi-use football cage at Royal Victoria Park, led by Bath City Youth Football Club
  • £17,740 to restore the final section of the boundary wall at the Jewish Burial Ground in Bath
  • £95,000 for pedestrian safety improvements at the Worcester Buildings, Avondale Buildings and Charlton Lane junctions in Lambridge
  • £13,500 to update the interior of Moorland Road Community Library
  • £7,000 for a new accessible entrance and pathways at Newbridge Park
  • £51,520 for indoor and outdoor improvements at Riverside Youth Hub
  • £21,000 for a sensory garden for Special Educational Needs students at Oldfield School
  • £19,500 for the second year of the WaterMyPlot project to improve the capacity and quality of Bath allotments

Residents were invited to give feedback on 16 qualifying applications during a three-week consultation period before the final funding decisions were made.

Community Infrastructure Levy funding comes from planning charges paid on new developments and is used to support projects benefiting local communities.

Bath & North East Somerset Council said £3.02 million has been received in Bath so far, with £2.82 million already allocated to community projects.

Outside Bath, parish and town councils directly receive a proportion of the levy to distribute locally. More than £2.17 million in CIL payments have been made outside Bath since 2015.
