Goughs strengthens family and private wealth legal support across the region

Goughs Solicitors has expanded its Private Client team, strengthening support for families, business owners and landowners across Wiltshire and Bath.

Goughs Solicitors has expanded its Private Client team with the appointment of three experienced legal specialists, strengthening support for families, business owners and landowners across Wiltshire, Bath, Somerset and the Cotswolds.

The firm has welcomed Tom Gauterin, Niamh Lewis and Ashley Wood as part of its growing private wealth and family advisory offering.

The expansion comes as more families seek specialist advice around inheritance, succession planning, wills, trusts and protecting family assets for future generations.

Established in 1882, Goughs Solicitors has seven offices across Wiltshire and more than 100 staff, providing legal services for individuals, families and businesses.

The strengthened Private Client team will support clients with a wide range of services including estate and succession planning, estate administration, tax planning, trusts, family investment companies and pre- and post-nuptial agreements.

Tom Gauterin joined the firm earlier this year as Legal Director, bringing nearly two decades of experience alongside dual qualification as both a solicitor and Chartered Tax Adviser. He has previously worked at leading firms including Smith & Williamson, Taylor Wessing and Burges Salmon, advising high-net-worth families and business owners in the UK and internationally.

Tom said, “What stands out at Goughs is the strength of the Private Client team and the way it works seamlessly across tax, corporate and property. That joined-up approach, combined with the firm’s long-standing experience advising families, landowners and business owners, creates a genuinely distinctive offering for clients seeking clear, practical and long-term support.”

Niamh Lewis joins as Senior Associate with more than 10 years’ experience specialising in estate administration, wills and lasting powers of attorney. An Associate Member of STEP, she advises executors, beneficiaries and charities, helping families navigate sensitive and often emotional legal matters with clear and practical advice.

Ashley Wood joins as Associate Solicitor, bringing experience in wills, trusts, inheritance tax planning and estate administration. He supports families, executors and attorneys with tailored legal advice designed around their individual circumstances.

The appointments reflect continued investment by Goughs Solicitors in specialist expertise as the firm expands its support for families looking to protect wealth, plan for the future and manage increasingly complex financial arrangements.
