Melksham pupils take on mini marathon to boost fitness and confidence

Pupils at Forest and Sandridge CE Primary School in Melksham take on a mini marathon, building fitness, confidence and wellbeing.

Pupils at Forest and Sandridge CE Primary School in Melksham have taken part in a mini marathon challenge, running laps of their school astroturf to build fitness, confidence and wellbeing.

The event, endorsed by Joe Wicks, encouraged children to complete a distance in a way that suited them, whether running, jogging or walking.

Rather than focusing on competition, the challenge was all about participation and personal achievement, helping pupils enjoy being active and set their own goals.

Children completed the challenge on the school’s new astroturf, with some reaching an impressive 18 laps, roughly three miles.

Teacher Sophie Overton said, “We believe that this was an enjoyable experience for all involved and we are proud to be part of a nationwide effort to inspire children to stay active.”

Year 6 pupil Mia-Rose said, “Even though it was difficult, we wanted to try really hard to reach the end and achieve a goal.”

Mrs Olive, Pine Class teacher, said, “45 minutes of continuous exercise. It was fab! I am so proud of the children. Go Forest! And, finally, a special thank you to Mrs Broadhead for helping out each year group.”

The event is part of a growing focus on encouraging children to stay active, supporting both their physical health and mental wellbeing in a fun, inclusive way.
