Girls aged 11 to 18 across Bradford on Avon and the surrounding area are being invited to give rugby a try as Walcats Girls Rugby looks to welcome new players ahead of the upcoming season.
Based at Bradford on Avon Rugby Club, the Walcats run age-group teams at under-12, under-14, under-16 and under-18 level, with sessions designed to suit both complete beginners and those with previous playing experience.
Training takes place on Tuesday evenings from 6.30pm to 8pm, with additional Sunday sessions introduced as the season approaches. Matches are played on Sundays from September through to April.
Coaches say the focus is firmly on creating a fun, inclusive and supportive environment where every player can develop at their own pace.
Sessions are structured to balance skill development with enjoyment, helping players build confidence while learning the game. The coaching team brings experience from both grassroots and professional rugby, ensuring training is tailored to suit all abilities.
Players are encouraged to get involved not just for the sport itself, but for the wider benefits that come with being part of a team, including improved fitness, new friendships and a strong sense of belonging.
One current player, Jude Lockwood, commented, “Walcats Girls Rugby has a really welcoming environment and I have made loads of friends since joining, and I have become a rugby player”.
