Pupils from Roundhill Primary School impressed judges and competitors alike after taking part in the Year 5 Maths Challenge Day at Prior Park College on Thursday 30 April.
The team of four – Harrison, Yixiao, Darcie-Rose and Tiege – competed against 14 other school teams in a series of brain-teasing maths and teamwork challenges, finishing fourth overall.
The event featured six different activities designed to test problem-solving, logic and collaboration skills. Challenges included a 15-minute quick-fire numbers round and a construction challenge where pupils had to build the tallest and strongest tower possible.
The Roundhill team also earned extra points for creativity after using origami skills during the tower-building task. Darcie-Rose said, “I really like doing the KenKen! It was a maths puzzle like Sudoku and it was harder to solve than the others!”
Teachers praised the pupils for their teamwork, determination and enthusiasm throughout the day.
