At St John’s, pupils have played a central role in achieving the award. Children across the school have embraced everyday actions such as reducing waste, saving energy and supporting those in need, developing a clear understanding of how small changes can make a meaningful difference.

A key part of this work has been led by the school’s pupil-led Eco-Committee. The group has driven initiatives to improve recycling systems and promote responsible environmental habits, helping to embed sustainability into daily school life.

The Chaplaincy Team has also supported a wide range of charitable initiatives, encouraging pupils to think beyond their immediate community and consider the needs of others locally and globally.

Support from the PTA has helped fund the development of the school’s LiveSimply garden. This dedicated space is becoming an important area for learning and reflection, giving pupils the opportunity to connect more deeply with the natural world.

Mrs Bennett and Mr Simmons, Co-Headteachers at St John’s Catholic Primary School, said, “We are incredibly proud of our pupils, staff and families for the commitment they have shown in achieving the LiveSimply Award. This reflects our shared mission as a Catholic school to care for creation, support others and live out our values in practical and meaningful ways every day.”

Helen Taylor, CEO of the Dunstan Catholic Educational Trust, said, “Huge congratulations to St John’s Catholic Primary School on achieving the CAFOD LiveSimply Award. This is a wonderful reflection of the school’s commitment to living out its Catholic mission in a very real and meaningful way.

“The leadership shown by pupils on the Eco-Committee is especially impressive, and it is inspiring to see children so actively engaged in caring for our world and for others. This achievement is a real testament to the strength of the whole school community, including staff, families and the PTA, working together to make a positive difference.”
