Wellsway School is marking the end of an important chapter in its governance as Chair of Governors Dawn Drury and Vice Chair Simon Parsons step down after eight years of dedicated service.
Dawn (pictured above with his successor Louisa Aldridge) has been part of the Wellsway community since 2005, first becoming involved through the Friends of Wellsway PTA, where she helped organise many of the school’s best-loved fundraising and community events. In 2018, she became a Community Governor before soon being appointed Chair of Governors, a role she has held for the past eight years.
During her time as Chair, Dawn has provided thoughtful leadership and a strong focus on supporting students, staff and the wider school community. She will continue to remain involved with Wellsway through her community work and involvement with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme.
Simon Parsons, who has served as a Community Governor and most recently Vice Chair of the Local Governance Committee, is also stepping down. The school praised Simon for bringing extensive experience from legal education and public service, alongside fairness and careful consideration in governance discussions.
Wellsway School has now appointed Parent Governor Louisa Aldridge as its new Chair of Governors.
Louisa brings more than 20 years of experience in education and has previously served as Vice Chair of Governors at another school. The school said she is committed to supporting the continued success of Wellsway School and its pupils.
Rob Pearsall, Headteacher at Wellsway School, said, “Dawn and Simon have given exceptional service to Wellsway School. Their leadership, dedication and integrity have had a lasting impact. We are extremely grateful for their contribution and warmly welcome Louisa Aldridge as our new Chair of Governors.”
Alongside announcing the new Chair, Wellsway School is also recruiting new governors to help shape the vision and strategic direction of the school.
The school is encouraging people from all walks of life to consider the volunteer role, stressing that no previous education experience is needed. Full training and support are provided, alongside opportunities to work with experienced governors and contribute to key areas of the school improvement plan.
