Year 5 pupils from Weston All Saints Church of England Primary School in Bath competed against secondary school students in the Junior Maths Challenge at Oldfield School, showing impressive determination and problem-solving skills.

The pupils, aged just nine and 10, took part in the hour-long multiple choice maths competition designed to test logic, reasoning and mathematical thinking.

Representing the school were Thea, Seth, Jude, Owen and Louis, who competed against older Year 7 and Year 8 students from schools across Bath and North East Somerset.

Thea said, “I had a really fun day and it was great to do some really challenging maths!”

Jon-Paul Beaumont, Year 4 teacher and co-maths lead at the school, said, “I am very impressed and proud of our group of Year 5 students who competed against students three years above them. The questions were so difficult but our children were so determined and up for the challenge!”

The school praised the pupils for embracing the opportunity and demonstrating resilience, teamwork and enthusiasm throughout the competition.
