A Bath couple have praised local construction and renovation specialists Marptree Design & Build after a £200,000 renovation and extension project transformed their period family home.
Mark and Joanne Seaman, who live at Entry Hill in Bath, turned to the Bath-based company to carry out an ambitious programme of works including a first-floor extension, extensive roofing improvements and a full renovation of their property.

The project not only created additional living space for the family but also tackled significant structural and waterproofing challenges that were uncovered during the refurbishment.
For many families living in Bath’s older properties, extending and modernising a home can be a more attractive option than moving. However, period homes often come with hidden issues that require specialist knowledge and experience to resolve.

That is where Marptree has built its reputation, delivering high quality new builds, extensions, renovations and refurbishments across Bath and the surrounding area.
A challenging renovation
According to Marptree Director Oliver Wilding – a qualified construction manager (BSC) and a member of the CIOBB (Chartered Institute of Building) – the Entry Hill project was one of the more technically demanding schemes the company has undertaken.
“This challenging project involved the renovation of a period property on the southern slopes of Bath, including a first-floor extension, extensive refurbishment works, roofing upgrades and significant retrospective waterproofing to the existing structure,” he said.

“The first-floor extension presented a number of technical complexities due to the site’s steep gradient. The new accommodation was designed with sections that were both partially suspended and partially submerged, requiring careful structural and waterproofing solutions.”
As work progressed, the team uncovered substantial damp ingress issues within the existing building.

“These defects required thorough investigation and a comprehensive remediation strategy to protect the building and ensure its long-term performance,” added Oliver.
Despite the challenges, the project was successfully completed, creating a modern family home while preserving the character of the original property.
Exceeding expectations
The Seamans were delighted with the outcome and praised the professionalism of the Marptree team throughout the project.
In a five-star review, they said, “Ollie and his entire team were professional and efficient throughout, and the finished project has exceeded our expectations.

“The attention to detail and quality of workmanship was outstanding with nothing overlooked with no compromising short cuts taken.
“Ollie was always generous and candid with advice and recommendations and had a great eye for design and solutions. Lines of communication were continuous and well documented.
“I would work with Ollie again without hesitation and would highly recommend Marptree to friends and family.”
Supporting Bath families
Marptree offers a wide range of services for families considering a new build, extending, renovating or improving their homes. The company specialises in managing projects from concept through to completion, helping homeowners navigate the complexities that can arise when working on older buildings.

Oliver believes experience is key when unexpected issues emerge.
“Projects of this nature are exactly the kind of challenge we enjoy,” he said. “When working with older properties, unforeseen issues are often part of the process. With the experience, technical expertise and trusted specialist teams in place, Marptree is well equipped to deliver complex renovation and extension projects while successfully overcoming the challenges that arise along the way.”
For Bath families who love where they live but need more space, improved layouts or modern upgrades, projects such as the Seamans’ renovation demonstrate how expert construction and renovation work can breathe new life into an existing home.
