Westwood with Iford School has played its part in creating a lasting legacy for the future after taking part in a special time capsule event at the site of the new Trowbridge Leisure Centre.
Mrs Saunders, Head of School, and Year 6 pupil Sophie represented the school at the event, which brought together pupils from schools across Trowbridge to contribute memories and snapshots of life in 2026 for future generations.
As part of the project, Westwood with Iford submitted a whole-school photograph to be placed inside the time capsule. The image was chosen to reflect the school’s strong sense of inclusion and community, with every pupil featured as a valued member of the school family.
Mrs Saunders said, “As a small school with a big heart, where every child is truly seen and known, our pupils – from our youngest to our oldest – learn, play and grow together. This photograph captures that spirit of togetherness.”
During the ceremony, Mrs Saunders and Sophie watched as the capsule was carefully buried on site, where it will remain sealed until 2056. When it is eventually opened, it will provide a unique insight into the lives of local children and the community they were part of.
The visit also gave them an opportunity to tour the new leisure centre, including the future locations of its two swimming pools and café. The pair gained an early look at a facility that is expected to become a major hub for local families and residents once completed.
With construction due to finish later this year, the school is looking forward to seeing the new centre open and the opportunities it will provide for the wider community.
The day was made even more memorable when Sophie enjoyed a traditional ’99’ ice cream during the visit.
Reflecting on the experience, Mrs Saunders said, “How exciting to be part of the future history of Trowbridge!”
Westwood with Iford School said it was proud to have contributed to the project, ensuring that the voices, experiences and spirit of its pupils will be preserved for generations to come.
