Bath Mind has launched a new summer holiday campaign offering families affordable activities and resources designed to support their mental and physical wellbeing.
The 5 Ways to Wellbeing Summer Challenge begins on Thursday 23 July and will continue until the end of the school holidays. Each week, Bath Mind will share suggestions for activities that families can enjoy together without spending large amounts of money.
The first five weeks will explore the recognised Five Ways to Wellbeing: Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning and Give. These will be followed by weeks focusing on creativity and self-care.
Activities, information and wellbeing tips will be published on the Bath Mind website and shared through the charity’s Facebook and Instagram accounts. Families will also be encouraged to share their experiences using the hashtag #5WaystoWellbeingSummerChallenge.
Rachael Hanwell, communications officer at Bath Mind, said, “While being a time to reset and enjoy being together, the summer holidays can also be a challenging time for families.
“From children and young people adjusting to a change of routine to parents and carers navigating work, childcare and the ongoing cost of living, we wanted to create a set of resources that helps make navigating the summer holidays a little easier.”
Bath Mind says the campaign aims to help families create lasting memories while developing simple strategies that can support their wellbeing during the holidays and beyond.
The charity also hopes the activities will help children and parents build resilience and reduce the impact of some of the emotional, financial and practical challenges that can arise during the long summer break.
Figures highlighted by Bath Mind suggest that mental health difficulties affect 20% of young people and 63% of parents. The charity says developing ways to manage mental health together as a family can help people respond to difficulties and changes more effectively.
Ideas and resources will be added to the campaign page weekly from 23 July. Families can take part in as many of the activities as they choose and adapt the suggestions to suit the ages, interests and needs of their children.
