Free summer learning offers support for Wiltshire parents and carers

Wiltshire parents and carers can access almost 60 free summer courses covering family learning, wellbeing, confidence, cooking and employment skills.

Parents and carers across Wiltshire are being encouraged to explore a range of free summer learning opportunities designed to help them support their families, improve their wellbeing and plan their next steps.

Wiltshire Council’s Family and Community Learning programme is offering almost 60 online and face-to-face sessions for eligible residents aged 19 and over. The programme includes family learning courses to help parents and carers understand and support their child’s development, learning and emotional wellbeing.

There are also adult courses covering confidence, resilience, healthy living, cooking and employability skills, offering parents and carers the chance to focus on their own personal development.

Sessions are designed to be friendly and supportive, with no previous qualifications or learning experience required. They can help participants build confidence, meet other people and take positive steps towards further education, volunteering or employment.

The courses are being delivered in partnership with schools, family hubs, Jobcentre Plus, the FUEL programme and community organisations across Wiltshire.

New for summer 2026 are Discovering Art for Wellbeing sessions, taking place at several locations across the county. These sessions will give adults the opportunity to explore how art and creativity can support positive mental wellbeing.

Other courses will give parents and carers practical ideas that they can use at home, whether they want to encourage their child’s learning, improve communication within the family or develop healthier routines.

Cllr Jon Hubbard, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills, said, “These free sessions provide a fantastic opportunity for residents to build confidence, learn new skills and improve their wellbeing in a supportive environment.

“Whether you’re looking to support your child, focus on your own development or take steps towards employment, there is something for everyone.”

The Family and Community Learning programme aims to make education more accessible to adults who may have experienced barriers to learning in the past.

Sessions are free for eligible Wiltshire residents aged 19 and over. Course dates, venues and eligibility details can be found in the FACL Summer Sessions Booklet 2026.
