An overgrown garden at Lift Broadlands has been transformed into a welcoming outdoor space thanks to the efforts of more than 40 volunteers from One Church Keynsham.
Adults and children from the church community spent a day clearing and improving the area as part of a growing partnership with the Keynsham school. Volunteers tackled overgrown sections of the garden, collected litter, chipped branches and built steps, helping to reveal the potential of the space for students and staff.
The project follows an offer of support from One Church Keynsham and is the latest way in which members of the church have worked with the school community. Previous support has included providing back-to-school essentials such as bags and stationery for families who need additional help, as well as donating Christmas hampers and gifts.
Sarah Hansford, community outreach lead at One Church Keynsham, said, “We believe communities are stronger when people look out for one another, and Broadlands is such an important part of Keynsham, doing brilliant work with young people.
“It has been wonderful to see so many adults and children come together to make a real difference, and we hope this is the beginning of a long and meaningful partnership supporting pupils and staff for years to come.”
The school and church are now considering further ways to develop the garden, including inviting students to help choose a name for the area and adding a bench or similar feature to complete the space.
Plans are also being made to launch a student mentoring programme from September, extending the partnership beyond practical projects and donations.

The garden project is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when people come together, and it will create a special outdoor space for our pupils to enjoy.
“We are excited to continue building this partnership and exploring new ways to support our children and families.”
The transformed garden will provide students with another place to spend time outdoors, while the continuing partnership promises further support for pupils, families and staff in the months ahead.
