Families of children and young people with additional needs are being encouraged to explore an expanding programme of accessible activities across Wiltshire this summer.
Inclusive Wiltshire, Wiltshire Council’s programme for children and young people aged up to 25 with additional needs and Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, brings together inclusive activities, opportunities and support in one place.
Families answer a few simple questions before being directed towards the option most suited to their child or young person. They can then log in to view available activities and further information.
The four options offered through the programme are Community Activities, Activity Extra, Activity Plus and Activity Payment.
Since Inclusive Wiltshire launched in May, the number and range of activities available across the county has continued to grow. The Activity Plus programme is also being extended to children and young people who do not meet the eligibility criteria for Activity Extra or Activity Payment, allowing more families to take part.
Activity Plus sessions include dance, football, boccia, dodgeball, other sports and a variety of fun games.
Creative summer activities across Wiltshire
A programme of creative activities for young people with SEND is planned in Chippenham, Bradford-on-Avon, Corsham, Salisbury and Melksham during the summer holidays.
Delivered by inclusive local artists and organisations, the programme will include music production workshops, acting and improvisation sessions, creative nature walks and inclusive dance activities.
All the sessions have been designed to be welcoming, accessible and enjoyable for children and young people with a range of interests and needs.
Cllr Jon Hubbard, Wiltshire Council Cabinet Member for SEND, said, “As we approach the summer holidays, we’re pleased to be able to offer even more opportunities for children and young people with additional needs and SEND through Inclusive Wiltshire.
“The programme has continued to develop since its launch, and with Activity Plus activities now available to a wider group of children and young people, there are more opportunities than ever for families to get involved.
“Whether you’re already familiar with Inclusive Wiltshire or are looking at it for the first time, I’d encourage families to visit the website, explore what’s available and find activities that suit their child’s interests and needs.
“We want every child and young person to have the opportunity to take part, enjoy a great summer, try something new, receive support and make new friends.”
