Lift Broadlands in Keynsham will open a new £20,000 dance studio in September as part of an ongoing programme of investment that has already seen more than £1.5 million spent improving the school since 2023.
The new studio will be created by converting the current gym, with the fitness suite relocated so students continue to benefit from high-quality sports facilities while gaining a dedicated space for dance and performance.
Outside school hours, the studio will also be available for community hire for dance, yoga and fitness classes.
The project forms part of a wider programme of improvements across the school, including refurbished toilets, a replacement boiler, new fencing, resurfaced car parking areas and extensive internal refurbishment work such as new flooring, decorating and improved learning environments.
Further investment is planned this year, including major roofing works and additional improvements to the building, with total spending expected to approach £2 million.
The school is also looking to expand its creative arts provision, subject to a successful external funding bid. Following the success of its first whole-school production in more than 20 years, Matilda, plans include improved lighting, sound and production facilities to support future performances.
